Ai2 partners with Google to advance AI research
Ai2 is a non-profit research institute dedicated to building breakthrough AI to solve the world’s biggest problems. What makes Ai2 unique is a truly open approach to the way its AI models and artifacts are created and shared – Ai2 makes all of the training data, code, model weights, and evaluation methods used to create its models openly available to the research and developer community. “We need true openness and a dedicated community coming together,” said CEO, Ai2 Ali Farhadi. This transparency empowers others to participate in the creation of state-of-the-art AI and to directly benefit from the many ways it can advance medicine, scientific research, climate science, and conservation efforts.

Ai2 wanted to create a platform that would not only enable more seamless collaboration and innovation across its diverse research teams but also provide the robust, scalable infrastructure needed to successfully develop its foundational AI research. Partnering with Google Cloud, Ai2 developed a platform that enabled its research teams to build state-of-the-art, truly open AI models, such as its OLMo large language model framework, its Tulu family of posttrained models, and its Molmo family of multimodal models. This platform is also enabling Ai2’s development of AI tools and agents to assist researchers from all scientific disciplines with literature review, hypothesis formation, and experimental design, as well as the creation of a collection of predictive open models for a variety of conservation challenges including human-wildlife conflict, marine activity forecasting, wildlands fire management, fine-grained climate modeling.
The fastest way forward is together, and through the truly open models Ai2 is creating in partnership with Google Cloud, AI research is advancing more quickly, safely, and comprehensively than ever before.
